Job Vacancies

Premises Manager

  • Hours: 10 hours across each of 40 working weeks; the weekly pattern can vary by agreement.
  • Salary: GLEA Grade 7, annual basic pay £7,000 approx
  • Base: the Federation school nearest to the successful applicant, with paid travel from that base to our other schools under the LCC Travel policy.

Our four nursery schools are places where children, families and staff should feel welcome, safe and cared for. We are looking for a friendly, practical and well-organised Premises Manager who will help us look after our buildings and the people who use them in Boston, Gainsborough, Grantham and Lincoln.

You will enjoy getting to know the schools and the people who work in them. This is a varied, flexible role: you will plan your work across the Federation according to priorities and will not need to visit every school every week. Working with the School Business Manager and senior leaders, you will support caretakers where we have them, work constructively with contractors and keep premises records and actions on track. Our building projects are generally modest and occasional; recent examples include changing flooring and replacing lighting with LEDs at one school.

The work includes arranging and checking maintenance, repairs and servicing; monitoring contracts and contractors; using Concerto to track premises compliance and actions; supporting risk assessment and COSHH records; and providing clear updates for senior leaders and governors. You will liaise with our ICT provider and responsible leaders to track relevant security checks and follow up outstanding actions.

We will agree a working pattern with you that meets the needs of the schools and gives you flexibility. Your 400 working hours are spread across 40 working weeks, but they do not have to be exactly 10 hours every week. For example, you may work more hours during a school holiday when contractors are on site and fewer hours, or take agreed time away, during term time. We will plan this together in advance; occasional changes will be agreed when work arises.

You will visit schools when a check, meeting or piece of work calls for it, rather than following a fixed weekly circuit of all four sites. Planning, records, calls and follow-up can often be done from home, or we can provide office space if you prefer. Your designated school remains your base, with travel to other Federation schools paid in line with the applicable policy.

You must hold a full, current driving licence, have access to your own car for travel between our four schools, and ensure it is insured for business use in accordance with LCC’s travel policy.

We would love to hear from someone who brings sound premises experience, takes pride in doing things properly and communicates kindly and clearly with colleagues across our schools. If you would like further information about the post, please email enquiries@lmnsf.education with any questions or to arrange a visit to one of our schools.

To apply: Please return the LCC application form filled out in full to enquiries@lmnsf.education

The Federation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. As the role involves working in our schools, appointment will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and other appropriate pre-employment checks.

Federation working arrangements

This note explains how the existing LCC generic Premises Manager job description, JEM 01-176, would operate in our Federation. It does not replace or amend that evaluated job description. It should be issued alongside the original LCC JD and confirmed with HR before advertising.

Sites and priorities

  • The four nursery schools are small. Work is prioritised across the Federation rather than divided into a fixed weekly allocation at each site. Site visits are arranged according to checks, identified issues and planned works.
  • The postholder keeps a proportionate schedule of premises checks, maintenance, servicing, repairs and follow-up actions, using Concert and other agreed records.
  • Small works and contractor visits are planned with school leaders. A limited number of projects may arise in a year; their scope and required site attendance will be agreed in advance.

People, assurance and systems

  • The postholder supports or manages caretaking/site staff where allocated under the Federation structure and monitors the quality of contracted services.
  • The postholder works with the School Business Manager and senior leaders and gives them and governors concise information about completed checks, outstanding actions, risks and decisions needed. Strategic accountability and approval of spending remain with the designated leaders and governors.
  • For ICT security, the postholder helps schedule, record and follow up checks with the ICT provider and responsible leaders.

Hours and location

The contract is expected to provide 400 working hours over 40 working weeks in the year, averaging 10 hours per working week. The hours do not have to be identical each week: additional hours may be planned during school holidays for contractor access or works, balanced by fewer hours or agreed time away in term time, within the contracted total. The pattern will be agreed in advance and adjusted by agreement as needs change. Site visits are arranged when needed, rather than at every school every week. The nearest Federation school is the designated base; travel from it to the other schools is paid under the applicable policy. Work that does not require site attendance can be carried out remotely or from provided office space, by agreement.
